Dee McCarthy
Deirdre McCarthy was born in Lusaka, Zambia and spent her formative years there. Her family moved to Belfast for a number of years and then moved to Kinsale in 1971.
She attended school in Kinsale. Deirdre attended Crawford School of Art and Design from 1975 to 1979, where she then attained a diploma in Fine Art. She went on to achieve a diploma in Art Education at Limerick College of Art and Design.
Deirdre was a founding member of the original Kinsale art group where she exhibited for a few years in kinsale.
In 1981, two of her pieces were chosen for e.v.a. She also exhibited with the Skibbereen art group.
Deirdre taught art in Dublin for the next 18 years. She then decided to return full-time to a career in art. She has exhibited in a variety of galleries. In 2002 she represented Ireland in a multi-european art symposium in Trieste, Italy, where all of her featured work was sold.
Her work now hangs in many countries including America, Australia, Canada,, France, Italy, England and Ireland.
Her collections include; An Bord Gáis, Dept of Taoiseach, O.P.W. Dublin, Image Gallery Dublin, Waldron Gallery Dunlaoghaire, Waterford Art Gallery, Tuckmill Gallery Naas, Inniscarra Art Gallery Rathcoole, Galway Art Gallery, Kent Gallery Kinsale, Boathouse Gallery Kinsale.
