Poppy Hunt
Born in Dublin, West Cork based artist Poppy Hunt has made a career from paintings and drawings of landscapes and animals, particularly of horses, to which she brings the horse rider’s sense both of anatomical accuracy, and also of empathy.
Working to commission, and with pieces in numerous private collections, in Ireland and internationally, she exhibits regularly including at the Lavitt Gallery, Punchestown, Goff’s, at the Kinsale Arts Festival, and in galleries across the UK. Poppy has studied with some of the world’s leading equine artists, and attended the sketching sessions at the Royal Hibernian Academy.
The immediate landscape of Kinsale is an obvious source of influence and inspiration, as are her regular trips to the races, as well as her travels around the world. Poppy’s video work The Long Lane, 2013, was viewed by thousands around the world as part of the Poetry Project, commissioned for Ireland’s Presidency of the EU. She has since returned to her first love, however, which is drawing and painting.
Poppy Hunt currently lives in Kinsale, Co Cork.
